The bank investing in a blockchain wine project
Banca Popolare di Puglia and Basilicata (BPPB) he announced have invested in a project dedicated to the certification of blockchain-based wine production chain.
It is BPPB Winechain, developed in collaboration with the innovative SME EZ LAB and with Salento Cave Due Marco Cave San Marco, in the province of Brindisi.
The bank has already participated in other blockchain-based projects, such as the ABILab “interbank check” and the “digital guarantees” of Cetif and Sia, but with BPPB Winechain becomes the first banking operator to offer its customers a blockchain-based solution applied to the food chain.
The credit institution based in Altamura, in the province of Bari, thus offers business clients a solution to guarantee the traceability and quality of their productions wineries, experienced for the first time in practice in the certification of wines produced by the Cantine Due Palme winery, which has more than a thousand conferring members.
Thanks to BPPB Winechain, the origin of the raw materials, their quality and all stages of the wine production and distribution chain are traced.
The solution was developed in collaboration with the innovative PMI of Padua EZ LAB, which provided the technological solution through the use of its AgriOpenData platform.
In this way, the bottle of wine is equipped with a so-called “Smart label”, with a QR Code that allows the consumer to access a web page in which to consult all the data relating to its production and distribution, such as the area in which the grapes were grown, the vineyards of origin and the activities who brought the grapes to processing and bottling.
