Mt. Pelerin is testing a safe for digital assets with quantum security
A distribution network from Quantum key (QKD) was provided and installed in Geneva as a test environment for the Quantum vault, that from Mt. Pelerin in cooperation with Quantum ID for financial institutions.
In October 2019 Mt. Pelerin, Quantum ID and two other Geneva organizations announced that they had received funding from the European Union under the quantum communication infrastructure project OPENQKD.
Your goal: the development of Quantum vault. The Quantum Vault was launched a few months earlier and is a partnership between Mt. Pelerin and ID Quantique to combine their know-how and develop a digital “secure” solution Geneva.
It aims to be one Ultra-secure storage of digital assets for financial institutions such as central banks, global depositaries, cryptocurrency exchanges and asset managers by adding an additional layer of quantum technology to the traditional storage solution.
The first test installation of the Quantum vault was presented today in Geneva at a joint webinar by Mt. Pelerin, ID Quantique and Equinix.
It is based on a QKD infrastructure provided by IDQ, which is transported over the Geneva Industrial Services fiber network, which hosts the central QKD node of this network
For the first time in Geneva, quantum keys are available between two data centers to secure data during transport and inactive data. By adding this quantum security layer to a storage solution at the bank level, the Quantum Vault makes the storage of private keys “information-theoretically secure” (ITS). This means that a digital asset cannot be hacked even with unlimited computing power. We also plan to investigate the application of this technology to the ultra-secure storage of information between multiple data centers, “said Grégoire Ribordy, co-founder and CEO of ID Quantique.
For Stéphane Deramaux, Quantum Vault project manager at Mt. PelerinWith this first test infrastructure, financial institutions can clearly see the performance and benefits of the Quantum Vault.
It is also a great demonstration of the partner network in the Geneva region, ”he added.
